God I love my iPhone. My shiny, new, pretty iPhone 4S with an amazing camera.
I also love my DSLR camera, but sometimes a cute device that fits in the palm of your hand is just what you need. Especially if you want to capture a urban mood, share the photos immediately, and add funky effects. If you’ve been following my Instagram account, you know I’ve been flooding it with artsy NYC photos. Here are a few of my favorites!
Midtown
The outstanding view from Top of the Rock, the observation deck on top of the Rockefeller Center. You guys probably know I’m an incredibly cheap traveler who hates paying for entry fees, but trust me on this one: this is the best $25 you’ll ever spend in New York City.
I got to spend lots of time in Midtown, because that’s where my hotel was. I did lots of shopping (not many US stores ship to Canada, because obviously we are in a remote corner of the world) and indulged in the much-buzzed New York City hustle.
Brooklyn
The beautiful view from the Brooklyn Bridge Park – so calm and fun! Especially with the delicious Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory around the corner. The view over Manhattan is simply stunning, and only in this park will you realize just how massive the bridge actually is. Definitely one of the highlights from my trip.
This one was taken in Williamsburg, who apparently is the hipster haven of New York City. I have to be honest here and say that I really didn’t like the area – it felt really run-down, especially in the backstreets of Bedford Avenue. If you’re into vintage shops, quirky second-hand items and B-graded eateries, then Williamsburg is for you. That’s sadly not my case!
West Village
The beautiful West Village architecture – definitely my favorite neighborhood in all of New York City. I love how homey and welcoming it feels, the hundreds of restaurants and bars within walking distance, and the celebrity sightings. I’m already looking forward to spend more time in the area next time I visit New York.
Do you like this set of Instagram photos of New York? Which is your favorite? What area do you prefer?

Gorgeous shots lady!
I have driven through the West Village twice now but really need to take my time to explore and take in such a beautiful neighbourhood.
On your next visit you’ll have to go explore the street food/food carts of New York – delicious!
Thanks Nicole! Walking in NYC is the best way to discover it, especially in the southern tip of the island.
Your post made me so nostalgic for the Big Apple. I was living in New York before my move to France and your pics just reminded me of how magical the city is. I like the two little girls the best. Just living life ;-)
Exactly – so simple! And it shows one of NYC’s most original works, the High Line.
Going to NYC this weekend. After already a rocky week your pics made me look forward for my upcoming weekend trip to the city. I’ve been to NYC many times, but not so much to Brooklyn! This time I’m staying in Park Slope area, a new place to discover for me. I love the BBridge picture! I have NEVER walked there before and am soooo eager to do it at last this weekend. The picture of the girls is touching in it’s simplicity. Thanks for sharing!
Also, forgot to add that I like all the pics and am a bit anxious that my phone-camera won’t allow me to take very good ones on my trip. I guess will give it a try :)
It’s crazy what great images anyone can do with the right apps – camera+ and instagram for example!
Happy travels to NYC!
Wow, these are cool! The Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central Station, view of the Central Park — super artistic and lovely patterns.
Thanks Christy! I LOVE camera+ and instagram together.
You have perfectly captured the vibe of New York City. Love all of them!
Thanks Stephanie! I had so much fun there.
Gorgeous! I love watching people fall in love with NYC. It had my heart for a very long time. I moved away more than five years ago now, but I will always miss it! (But not the winters.)
I can’t possibly understand why you wouldn’t miss NYC’s winters! :P
I love the tilt shift effect on the boats :D
Thanks Laurence!

Really cool shots! You already know I am a big fan of Instagram. :)
NYC is just such a cool city. I need to go back and hope to on my next trip home to Toronto.
